The nostalgic tale is set in the aftermath of WW II. Young Salvatore, fondly called Toto, finds his escape in the local theater and after a rocky start, befriends the projectionist, moves away and becomes a cinematic success. Only after the projectionist’s death, does Salvatore learn of all his mentor did for him.

“Cinema Paradiso is about the power of dreams,” said Salvatore Cascio, who played the young Toto. “In the film, we see the people go to the cinema to dream: by watching great movies, they forget all their problems. In becoming a great film director, Toto achieves his own personal dream, too. In today’s world, with this crisis that we’re all experiencing both in politics and in society, the film reminds us that we can, and must, keep on dreaming.”
